“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?"
It’s a new year and we thank God for bringing us thus far. I am indeed confident that this year has already started rolling out many beautiful things unto us. But in order for us to get the best out of the year, we must have the right opinion of the One from whom all good things proceed. In the previous year, I came to an understanding, which though I had long possessed, only became vivid then. I discovered that while we Christians might have the right perception of God in certain spheres, we might be so far from the truth in some others.
For example, a believer harbors no doubt whatsoever with regards to the omnipotence of God. The fact that he calls Him “God” alone is a direct insinuation of His ability to create, to do and to undo, to make and to destroy. He will never debate these. Even when he reads the Scriptures and is met with the records of the unimaginable wonders God wrought in those days, he doesn’t give it a second thought. Of course, it’s God! Is there anything too hard for Him? But if you want to spoil the fun for this my dear friend, ask him a simple question. “What about this situation you’re going through?” Then the story changes!
Will God Do It for Me?
So, the question for many of us is not whether or not God can do it. This is never in doubt. God is able to do all things! Oh, come on! We sing about this all the time in church. Though we know that God can do it, we still ask if He will do it. Though He healed someone in your church of cancer, you still worry whether He wants to take away your back pain. And while you remember how He took a man from the prison to the palace, you still cannot believe that He can make a world leader out of the mere trader’s son that you are. Why does anyone who has ever read and believes the Bible doubt the willingness of God?
God has already proven His willingness beyond any doubt several centuries ago. You see, right now, I’m not asking you to take my word for it, God Himself makes this argument in His word. He states very clearly in this verse, “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us ALL things?” So, remember that you only have a right to the question, “Will God do it for me?”, if you do not believe in the sacrifice of Christ on the cross.
Why Do You Pray the Way You Do?
Many of us are frustrated in the place of prayer for one single reason; we go to God with the wrong mindset. We pray fearing that God somehow doesn’t want to give us what we ask. However, prayer is not an attempt to change God’s unwillingness but a means of taking hold of His willingness. Let’s even assume for a moment that God doesn’t want to give you a thing, why would you want that same thing? The idea that we’re praying to God for something He is unwilling to give us suggests either that our wisdom is superior or that He is intentionally evil. And these two scenarios completely negate everything we know about God’s nature. For every great plan or desire you have ever devised for your life, God has already prepared something way greater even before you were conceived. So, in 2020, pray with a difference. Remember that God is not just able to do that thing you so desire, He is also willing to do it. For just as He said to that leper in Matthew 8:3, He is also saying to you today, “I am willing”.
